Profit & Loss Statement

A fiscal-period Profit & Loss report with Revenue, COGS, and OpEx rollups, prior-period comparison, CSV export, and an AI Assistant.

Overview

The Profit & Loss Statement (in the Advanced Finance app mode) builds a standard P&L report for a chosen fiscal period. It groups amounts into collapsible Revenue, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), and Operating Expenses sections, each with its own subtotal, and rolls those up into Gross Profit, Operating Profit, and Net Profit.

Separate From Finance → Profit & Loss

This screen belongs to the Advanced Finance app mode. The main Finance module has its own Profit & Loss screen under its Grid View — the two are independent screens with independent data.

Fiscal Period Presets

Switch between month, quarter, half-year, full fiscal year, or a custom date range.

Prior-Period Comparison

Toggle a comparison column against the prior equivalent period, with color-coded favorable/unfavorable variance.

Collapsible Sections

Revenue, COGS, and Operating Expenses each collapse independently so you can focus on one area at a time.

AI Assistant

A collapsible chat panel answers questions about margins, cost drivers, and period-over-period changes.

CSV Export & Print

Export the current statement to CSV or send it straight to print, matching what's on screen.

Dual Style

Dark Workstation and light Enterprise visual modes, switchable from Settings → Appearance → Screen Style.

  1. Open Profit & Loss Statement from the Advanced Finance sidebar.

When prior-period comparison is on, each rollup shows a variance figure colored green for a favorable change (profit up, cost down) and red for an unfavorable one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pick any date range, not just the presets?
Yes — choose the Custom Range option and set a start and end date. The report recalculates for exactly that window.
Why is a variance shown in red even though profit went up?
Variance color follows favorable/unfavorable direction per line, not simply positive/negative. For a cost line, an increase is unfavorable (red) even though the raw number is positive.
Does this share data with the Finance module's Profit & Loss screen?
No. Advanced Finance's Profit & Loss Statement and the Finance module's Profit & Loss screen are separate screens with separate data.
