Domain Roles & Capabilities

Automotive & Fleet Management Ops ships out-of-the-box roles under the AUTOFLEET domain. Assigning a role to a staff member auto-grants that role’s capabilities as a domain “hat” — an employee can carry an AUTOFLEET hat alongside hats in other domains.

Approver capabilities

Two of the five default roles carry approval authority: insurance claim approval (fleetops:insuranceclaim:approve) and asset decommission approval (fleetops:decommission:approve) are both approver capabilities held by the Fleet Asset & Insurance Officer (and, like every capability, by the Chief Fleet & Maintenance Manager).

Roles & Staff governance screens

The Automotive & Fleet Management Ops Roles screen uses the shared Roles shell (the same component every add-on uses): each role has a description and a resource-grouped capability picker built from the AUTOFLEET capability catalog above. The Fleet & Maintenance Staff screen (staff master, title key afStaffTitle, department “Operations”) is where roles get assigned to individual staff members.

Auto-grant & multi-hat

Selecting a role when adding staff attaches the role’s capabilities to the employee. An existing employee can carry an Automotive & Fleet Ops hat alongside hats in other domains — e.g. a person can be both a Maintenance Supervisor here and hold a Manufacturing role elsewhere in the same tenant.

Can I create a custom role instead of using the 5 defaults?

Yes. The Roles screen lets an admin build any combination of the 16 AUTOFLEET capabilities into a custom role; the 5 seeded roles are a starting point, not a restriction.

Does an AUTOFLEET role grant access outside this add-on?

No — a AUTOFLEET role exposes only AUTOFLEET capabilities plus the GLOBAL capabilities every domain inherits (physical/operational basics).

Why do insurance claims and asset decommission both carry approver capabilities on the same role?

They’re both financial sign-off points in the vehicle’s life — a claim payout and a write-off both need someone accountable for the number that lands on the books. The Fleet Asset & Insurance Officer role groups them because they’re typically owned by the same finance-adjacent function; both route through the Chief Fleet & Maintenance Manager role as well, which holds every capability.
