The Brain

The thinking part of Enterprise Mind: it compares options, suggests with evidence and learns from what happened.

What the Brain is

The Brain is the part of Enterprise Mind that does the thinking. Memory, the Decision Ledger and Recall hold what your organisation knows. The Brain uses it: it follows what happens in your modules, compares the options for a decision, picks a suggestion with its evidence, checks it against your limits, and learns from the result.

It never works alone. Every suggestion rests on records that Memory can show, and every action waits for the level of autonomy an administrator granted.

How the Brain fits with the other parts

PartIts jobHow the Brain uses it
MemoryKeeps what happened, with sourcesReads context and past experience for every decision
RecallBrings similar cases back to the personShares the same similar cases when it builds a suggestion
Decision LedgerRecords who decided what, and whyWrites every suggestion and its outcome there
Outcome LearningCompares expected with actualFeeds results back so the next suggestion improves
Autonomy & ApprovalsDecides how far an action may runStops at the level an administrator granted
GovernanceData classes, retention, auditStays inside them for every read and action

The Brain and Brain Engine

This page describes The Brain from the customer's side: what it does and what you see. Brain Engine is the technical architecture behind it, with its modules, MetaModel and infrastructure.

What a suggestion looks like

The Brain never returns a bare answer. A result is one of three kinds, and each comes with its uncertainty and the records behind it.

A choice

"Add one cleaner to the Friday shift." The recommended option among the allowed ones.

A score

"Late-check-in risk: 74 out of 100." A ranking you can sort and filter by.

A probability

"Renewal likely: 62 percent." How likely an outcome is, with a range, not a single promise.

Always shownWhy
ConfidenceSo a weak suggestion is not mistaken for a strong one.
EvidenceThe cases, facts and documents it relied on, each linked to its source.
Policy checkWhether limits such as cost caps and data classes are met.
AlternativesThe other options that were compared and why they ranked lower.

Confidence is not authority

A highly confident suggestion still cannot exceed a limit, touch sensitive data or run an irreversible action. Consequential actions always wait for a person.

The loop

Every decision goes through the same six steps, so each outcome makes the next suggestion better.

How options are compared

For a decision with more than one reasonable answer, The Brain lays the options side by side instead of returning only the winner. Each option is scored against your own history and checked against policy.

A new way of solving a problem is never switched on by itself. Before a changed method replaces the current one it is tested on past cases and then approved by an administrator.

Worked example: a delayed shipment

A supplier tells the warehouse that an inbound shipment will arrive two days late. Here is how the loop handles it.

StepWhat happens
ObserveThe delay message and the updated delivery date are recorded against the purchase order.
RememberRecall shows the last three delays from this supplier: two were resolved by moving stock from another site, one by rescheduling customers.
PredictLikely stock-out in 3 days for two products, with a range.
DecideTwo options are compared: transfer stock from the second warehouse, or reschedule two customer deliveries. Cost and customer commitments are shown for each.
ActThe warehouse manager approves the transfer. The transfer order is created from the action catalog; the customer messages are left untouched.
LearnWhen the goods arrive the result is recorded: no stock-out, cost as expected. The next delay from this supplier starts from this case.

Same loop, any module

Replace the shipment with a late check-in, an overdue service or a stalled deal and the six steps are the same.

What the Brain never does

The Brain neverInstead
Acts outside the action catalogOnly catalog actions run, at the level granted.
Lets confidence override a limitA confident suggestion still stops at the limit.
Uses data you may not readIt follows the same roles and data classes as the original record.
Promotes its own rules or methodsEverything new waits for an administrator.
Guesses when an action gets no replyThe action is shown as unknown and checked.

FAQ

Is the Brain a chatbot?
No. It does not answer from general knowledge. It works from your records and past decisions, and every result carries its sources.
Does the Brain decide for me?
Only where an administrator has handed that decision over, and only inside the limits set. Otherwise it suggests and waits for a person.
Can I use the Brain without Memory or Recall?
They work together. The Brain's suggestions are only as good as the memory behind them, which is why Enterprise Mind brings the parts together.
How is it related to Brain Engine?
Brain Engine is the technical architecture behind The Brain. This page covers what the Brain does for you; Brain Engine covers how it is built.
