Storyteller

Generate creative fiction with characters, plot arcs, dialogue, and genre-specific storytelling.

Overview

Storyteller is a creative writing assistant that generates short stories, novelette chapters, and narrative fiction. Describe a premise, choose a genre, and the AI crafts a story with developed characters, a rising conflict, and a satisfying resolution.

Key Options

Genre

Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Romance, Thriller, Mystery, Horror, Historical Fiction, Children's Story, and more.

Characters

Name your protagonist and antagonist and add brief character descriptions to guide the AI.

Setting

Describe the world, time period, location, and atmosphere and the story will be grounded there.

Length

Flash fiction (~500 words), Short Story (~1500 words), or Chapter (~3000 words).

Prompt Library & Knowledge Attach

Above the description field, Insert Prompt pulls a saved template from your prompt library (My Prompts) into the story concept, and Attach Knowledge opens a picker over your personal library (My Knowledge — uploaded files, URLs, and pasted text) so the story can be grounded in real reference material — worldbuilding notes, character sheets, prior chapters — instead of the model's general knowledge.

Semantic Ranking

As you type a premise, knowledge sources are ranked by embedding-based relevance (configured in Settings → Agentic → Embedding Engine). The most relevant sources appear at the top of the Attach Knowledge picker with a relevance score badge.

Assisted Mode

Default search mode. You pick sources manually from the ranked list — nothing is attached without your confirmation.

Automatic Mode

Switch to Automatic in Settings → Agentic → My Knowledge Search Behavior and the top-ranked sources auto-attach as you type, shown with a "N sources auto-attached" chip. Open the picker any time to review or override the selection.

Graceful Fallback

Without an embedding model configured, the picker shows your full source list unranked with a note explaining why — Attach Knowledge and Generate always keep working.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I continue a story across multiple sessions?
Paste the ending of the previous story section as context in your new prompt. The AI will continue from that point with consistent characters and tone.
Which AI engine is best for Storyteller?
For the highest quality creative output, the Anthropic Claude engine is recommended. Storyteller also supports Cohere when API Mode is set to Cohere in Settings.
Do I need Ollama to use Attach Knowledge?
No. You can always manually pick sources from your library. Ollama (via Settings → Agentic) only powers the semantic ranking and Automatic auto-attach behaviour — without it, sources simply appear unranked.
How do I control how long the generated story is?
Use the Length option to choose Flash Fiction (~500 words), Short Story (~1500 words), or Chapter (~3000 words). Pick a shorter length for quick scene sketches and a longer one when you need a fully developed chapter with rising conflict and resolution.
