R&D Grants & Compliance Tracking

Grant & Incentive Tracking, Tech Transfer & Licensing, R&D Tax Incentive Audit (coming soon), and IP Valuation & Royalty.

What this group does

R&D Grants & Compliance Tracking covers the money and compliance side of IP once it exists: funding programs backing the R&D, licensing deals that monetise it, tax-incentive audit trails, and IP valuation used to price royalties and sync fair market value back onto the patent record.

One screen isn’t built yet

R&D Tax Incentive Audit is currently a Coming Soon placeholder (RdTaxIncentiveAuditScreen) — it appears in the sidebar and is entitlement-gated like the other 15 screens, but has no working ledger, gauge or AI flow yet. The three sections below for it describe only what’s planned, not what exists today.

1. Grant & Incentive Tracking

Purpose: Tracks R&D grant and government incentive programs funding the tenant’s research — award amounts, milestones, reporting deadlines and compliance status for each program.

Key actions

  • Add/edit a grant or incentive program record
  • Track milestone and reporting-deadline status against each award

2. Tech Transfer & Licensing

Purpose: Manages the licensing side of the patent portfolio — which patents are licensed out (or in), to whom, under what royalty terms, and the status of each deal.

Key actions

  • Add/edit a tech-transfer or licensing deal record, linked to a Patent Portfolio Catalog entry
  • Track licensing deal status through negotiation to execution

3. R&D Tax Incentive Audit Coming Soon

Planned purpose: Audit R&D tax-incentive claims (e.g. R&D tax credit filings) for compliance with the documentation and eligibility rules the claim depends on — the compliance-audit counterpart to Grant & Incentive Tracking’s funding-side records.

This screen is registered in the add-on’s routing, sidebar and role capability catalog (patentrd:taxincentive:audit, held by the Grants & IP Valuation Officer role) but currently renders as a guided placeholder rather than a working ledger. Treat any description of its ledger columns, gauge or AI flow as forward-looking, not current behavior.

4. IP Valuation & Royalty

Purpose: Produces fair-market-value estimates for patent assets and royalty terms — the screen that turns a patent from a legal asset into a priced financial one.

Key actions

  • Run/record a valuation for a patent asset
  • Sync Valuation to Asset Ledger (syncIpValuationToLedger()) — writes the estimated fair market value directly onto the linked Patent Portfolio Catalog record’s fairMarketValue field, a genuine cross-screen write, not a simulated one. See Screen Workflows.

Approver capability

Valuation approval (patentrd:valuation:approve) is one of the add-on’s three approver capabilities — held by the Grants & IP Valuation Officer and Chief IP & R&D Counsel roles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is R&D Tax Incentive Audit usable today?
No — it’s a Coming Soon placeholder. The capability and role assignment exist, but the screen has no working ledger yet.
Does syncing a valuation change the patent’s protection status?
No — it writes only the fairMarketValue field on the linked Patent Portfolio Catalog record; protection status, filing dates and every other field stay untouched.
Who can approve an IP valuation?
The Grants & IP Valuation Officer and Chief IP & R&D Counsel roles hold the patentrd:valuation:approve approver capability.
Are Grant & Incentive Tracking and Tech Transfer & Licensing linked to each other?
Both reference the Patent Portfolio Catalog independently, but there isn’t yet a direct record-to-record link between a specific grant and a specific licensing deal in this codebase.
