Oceania & Pacific Map Explorer

Explore Australia, New Zealand, and the island nations of the Pacific Ocean with interactive maps and data tools.

Overview

The Oceania & Pacific Map Explorer covers Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and the many island nations and territories of the Pacific Ocean. Despite encompassing the world's largest ocean, Oceania has one of the smallest populations of any continental region — making per-country and per-territory data analysis especially meaningful for business and research purposes.

Use this map to explore the unique geography of the Pacific, from the vast landmass of Australia to the tiny coral atolls of Kiribati and Tuvalu. The map supports the same data overlay system as all other continental views, and each Pacific island nation is individually selectable regardless of its size.

Load Oceania

Type load oceania in the Map Explorer terminal to load the Oceania & Pacific view. The map zooms out to display the vast Pacific Ocean and all island nations within it.

Countries & Territories

Mainland Countries

🇦🇺 Australia

The largest country in Oceania and the sixth-largest in the world by area. Capital: Canberra. Australia's economy is one of the largest in Asia-Pacific, driven by mining, agriculture, and services.

🇳🇿 New Zealand

A high-income country in the southwestern Pacific. Capital: Wellington. Known for its innovative economy, clean energy, and globally recognized agricultural exports (dairy, meat, wine).

🇵🇬 Papua New Guinea

The largest Pacific island nation by area and population. Capital: Port Moresby. Rich in natural resources — the country has significant untapped mineral and energy reserves.

Pacific Island Nations

The following Pacific island nations are individually selectable on the Oceania map. Due to their small size, the map provides zoom-to-country functionality to examine them in detail:

  • Fiji — Major tourism destination and regional economic hub. Capital: Suva.
  • Solomon Islands — Archipelago nation in the southwestern Pacific. Capital: Honiara.
  • Vanuatu — 80-island archipelago. Capital: Port Vila. Known for tourism and offshore finance.
  • Samoa — Two Samoas: independent Samoa (capital: Apia) and American Samoa (US territory).
  • Tonga — The only remaining Pacific monarchy. Capital: Nukuʻalofa.
  • Kiribati — Straddles the International Date Line. Capital: South Tarawa. Highly vulnerable to sea-level rise.
  • Micronesia — Federated States of Micronesia in the western Pacific. Capital: Palikir.
  • Palau — Small island nation known for its pristine marine environment. Capital: Ngerulmud.
  • Marshall Islands — Low-lying atoll nation in the central Pacific. Capital: Majuro.
  • Nauru — World's smallest island nation. Capital: Yaren (de facto).
  • Tuvalu — One of the world's least populous nations. Capital: Funafuti.

Interactive Features

The Oceania map includes all standard Map Explorer interactive features, with special handling for the Pacific's unique geography:

  • Click to select: Click any country or island nation to highlight it and view population, GDP, capital, and area in the right-side detail panel.
  • Zoom to island nations: Small Pacific island nations are difficult to click at the full continental zoom level. Use zoom [country name] or the terminal search to jump directly to any island nation and select it at a comfortable zoom level.
  • Ocean territory visualization: Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) for Pacific nations can be visualized to show each nation's full maritime territory — often much larger than its land area.
  • Data layers: Apply population, GDP, or area overlays. Australia dominates in all three metrics on this map, but the relative data for Pacific island nations remains visible through the choropleth shading scale.
  • Split view: Compare Oceania with Asia side-by-side — particularly useful for analyzing Pacific trade route relationships.
