Overview
The North America Map Explorer provides a focused continental view covering the United States, Canada, Mexico, all Central American nations, and the Caribbean island nations and territories. With over 23 recognized sovereign nations plus numerous territories, North America offers a diverse landscape for geographic and business analysis.
Use the North America map to analyze market opportunities across the continent, explore population density distributions, compare GDP between nations, or plan logistics routes across the Americas. All standard Map Explorer interactive features are available — click a country to see its details, zoom to any region, or apply data overlays for a richer analytical view.

Type load north-america in the Map Explorer terminal to zoom directly to the North American continent. The map adjusts to display all countries and territories at once.
Countries & Territories
Major Nations
🇺🇸 United States
The largest economy in North America. 50 states spanning from the Atlantic to the Pacific, plus Alaska, Hawaii, and several island territories. Capital: Washington D.C.
🇨🇦 Canada
The second-largest country in the world by total area. 10 provinces and 3 territories. Capital: Ottawa. Rich in natural resources and a major G7 economy.
🇲🇽 Mexico
A major emerging economy and the 11th largest country in the world. Capital: Mexico City. A key manufacturing hub and trade partner for the US and Canada.
Central America
Central America connects North and South America through a narrow isthmus. The following nations are included in the North America map:
- Guatemala — Capital: Guatemala City. Most populous Central American nation.
- Belize — Capital: Belmopan. Only English-speaking country in Central America.
- Honduras — Capital: Tegucigalpa. Known for its Caribbean coast and Mayan ruins.
- El Salvador — Capital: San Salvador. The smallest and most densely populated Central American country.
- Nicaragua — Capital: Managua. Largest Central American nation by area.
- Costa Rica — Capital: San José. High Human Development Index and a model for ecotourism.
- Panama — Capital: Panama City. Home to the Panama Canal — a critical global trade artery.
Caribbean
The Caribbean region includes major island nations such as Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and numerous smaller island states and territories of the United States, United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands.
Interactive Features
All standard Map Explorer interactive features are available in the North America continental view:
- Click to select: Click any country or territory to highlight it and view its information panel — population, GDP, capital, area, and any active data overlay values.
- Double-click to zoom: Double-click any country to zoom the map to that country's boundaries for a closer examination.
- Data layer overlays: Toggle population, GDP, or area overlays using terminal commands. Country shading intensity reflects the selected metric.
- Split view: Enable Split View to place the North America map side-by-side with another continental map for direct comparison — useful for trade analysis with Europe or South America.
- Hover tooltips: Hover over any country or territory to see a quick tooltip with its name and current metric value.
- Territory highlighting: US territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and others are individually selectable on the map.

Map Layers
The following data overlay layers are available for the North America map. Activate each with the corresponding terminal command:
Population
Visualize total population per country using color-coded choropleth shading. The US, Canada, and Mexico dominate by total population on this continent. Command: show population
GDP
Map economic output per country. The US has by far the largest nominal GDP in the region, followed by Canada and Mexico. Command: show gdp
Area
Display land area per country. Canada is the dominant country by area, covering the northern half of the continent. Command: show area
Custom Data
Import your own CSV data and map it to North American countries for custom business intelligence — sales territories, customer distribution, store count per country.
US States View
When zoomed into the United States, the map automatically switches to a state-level view so you can select and analyze individual US states rather than the country as a whole. Zoom out to return to country-level view.
