Navigation Basics

Learn how to move around TotalApp efficiently — from the sidebar and header to keyboard shortcuts and the quick-switch command palette.

Application Layout

TotalApp is organised into three permanent chrome areas: the collapsible left sidebar, the top header bar, and the main content area. All screens live inside the content area; the sidebar and header remain fixed as you navigate.

Left Sidebar

Contains navigation links for all screens in the active App Mode. Click the collapse arrow to hide it and gain more horizontal space. Hover over a collapsed icon to see its label tooltip.

Top Header

Shows the current screen title, App Mode switcher, notification bell, global search, and your account avatar. The mode switcher cycles through your enabled modes or opens the mode picker popover.

My Apps Grid

Click the grid icon in the header to open the My Apps overlay — a visual launcher for every screen you have enabled. Drag tiles to reorder them.

Global Search

Press Ctrl K (or ⌘ K on macOS) to open the command palette. Type a screen name, action or record to jump to it instantly without navigating menus.

Keyboard Shortcuts

TotalApp supports keyboard shortcuts to speed up common actions. Most shortcuts are also listed inside the app by pressing ? while no input field is focused.

  • Ctrl K / ⌘ K — Open the command palette / global search
  • Ctrl / — Toggle the sidebar open or collapsed
  • Ctrl Shift M — Open the App Mode switcher
  • Ctrl N — Create a new record in the current screen (where supported)
  • Escape — Close the active modal or panel
  • ? — Show in-app shortcut reference overlay

Power-User Tip

Use the command palette (Ctrl K) to jump between screens without lifting your hands from the keyboard. Start typing the screen name and press Enter on the highlighted result.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I collapse the sidebar to get more screen space?
Click the collapse arrow at the top of the left sidebar, or press Ctrl / (⌘ / on macOS). The sidebar shrinks to icon-only mode; hover over any icon to see its label in a tooltip. Click the arrow again, or press the same shortcut, to expand it back.
What's the fastest way to jump to a specific screen without clicking through menus?
Press Ctrl K (or ⌘ K on macOS) to open the global command palette from anywhere in the app. Start typing the screen name, record title, or action, then press Enter on the highlighted result to navigate directly to it.
I can't find a screen in the sidebar — where else can I look?
Open the My Apps grid by clicking the grid icon in the top header. This shows every screen you have enabled as a visual tile launcher, grouped by category, and lets you drag tiles to reorder them. If the screen still isn't visible, check Settings → App Modes to confirm it's enabled for your current mode.
How do I switch between App Modes (e.g. Project Management, HR, Finance)?
Use the App Mode switcher in the top header — click it to cycle through your enabled modes, or press Ctrl Shift M to open the full mode picker popover and jump directly to any mode. Each mode shows only the sidebar sections relevant to that domain.
