Learning Management System
Course builder, quiz engine, skill matrix — a complete internal LMS for upskilling your team.
What's Included
TotalApp's Learning Management System (LMS) gives your organisation a complete in-house upskilling platform. You can author structured courses, generate quizzes with AI assistance, and visualise every employee's current competency level — all without leaving TotalApp.
The LMS ships as three tightly integrated screens inside the LMS app mode. Each screen handles a distinct part of the learning workflow:
- Course Builder — create and publish structured learning courses with sections, lessons, homework, and tests. Authors use a visual editor with an optional AI assistant for content suggestions and outline generation.
- Learning Path — sequence existing Courses and Quizzes into an ordered, gated journey. Admin and HR users assign the whole path to a team in one action; learners follow a step timeline that unlocks one step at a time. See the Learning Path documentation.
- Quiz Engine — build standalone quizzes manually or conversationally via an AI chat panel. Supports multiple question types, time limits, randomisation, and per-student analytics.
- Skill Matrix — a visual competency grid showing every employee's proficiency level across all registered skill categories. Managers can spot gaps and assign targeted courses.
Connected to HR
The Skill Matrix reads its employee roster directly from the HR Employees. Any employee added through HR is automatically available in the Skill Matrix — no duplicate data entry required.
Feature Overview
Course Builder
Author multi-section courses with lessons, embedded videos, attachments, homework assignments, and quiz tests. Publish courses to your internal catalog and track completion.
Learning Path
Chain existing courses and quizzes into a single gated journey with sequential unlocking and one-action team assignment. See the full documentation.
Quiz Engine
Create multiple-choice, true/false, and short-answer quizzes. Use the AI assistant to generate questions in seconds — just describe the topic and the AI produces complete questions with plausible distractors.
Skill Matrix
A live competency map across your entire workforce. Track Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert levels per employee per skill. Filter by department, skill category, or gap analysis.
AI Integration
Two of the three LMS screens include embedded AI assistant panels that help authors create content faster without leaving TotalApp.
Quiz Engine — Conversational Quiz Authoring
The Quiz Engine's AI assistant lets you describe a topic in plain language and receive fully-formed quiz questions in return. Ask it to "create 10 multiple choice questions about project management principles" and it will generate questions, answer options, and correct-answer markers. You can accept suggestions as-is, edit them, or ask for variations.
Prompt Tips
The more specific your prompt, the better the output. Instead of "questions about Python", try "10 intermediate-level multiple choice questions about Python list comprehensions and generators, with 4 options each". Specifying difficulty and question count consistently produces better results.
Course Builder Author — Content Suggestions
While authoring a course, open the AI panel from the right edge of the screen. Ask it to suggest a lesson outline, expand a section summary into full paragraphs, or write quiz questions for a specific lesson. The AI is aware of the course context you are currently editing, so its suggestions are relevant to the material already present.
Getting Started
Follow these steps to go from zero to a published course with an assigned quiz in under 15 minutes:
- Switch to LMS mode — use the mode switcher in the header or navigate from My Apps.
- Open Course Builder — click "Add Course" and give it a title. The title is the only required field; everything else can be added later.
- Build your content — add sections to organise the course, then add lessons within each section. Attach files, embed video URLs, or write text content directly in the lesson editor.
- Publish the course — toggle the course status to Published. Published courses appear in the catalog for all employees to enrol in.
- Create a quiz — switch to Quiz Engine, add a new quiz, and either build questions manually or open the AI panel to generate them from a prompt.
- Monitor progress — check the Skill Matrix to see how competency levels are changing across your team as employees complete courses and pass quizzes.
Recommended Learning Path
For best results, link each published course to one or more skills in the Skill Matrix. When an employee completes the course, a manager can update their skill level — creating a direct feedback loop between learning activity and competency tracking.
